Judge admonishes defendant wearing cross in assault case
Delaware County Judge Frank Hazel scolded John A. Fessenbecker 33 for wearing a gold cross as he entered a plea to aggravated assault for beating a woman found semi conscious in her kitchen on Sept 18. The victim, in a relationship with the defendant, chose not to testify and the plea was accepted with an 8 to 23 month sentence.

Jury set for murder case in Dorathy Johnson slaying
The jury for the murder trial of 36 year old David Gordon Garnett was selected yesterday and testimony begins this morning before Judge Anthony Semeraro. Garnett faces first degree murder charges in the Dec 16 slaying of Dorathy Johnson, an Elwyn Institute co worker, whose bound and gagged body was found under Garnett's disabled van in Middletown. If convicted, Assistant District Attorney John F X Reilly will seek the death penalty.

Veterans honored at De La Salle ceremony in Springfield
The De La Salle Council plans a patriotic ceremony tomorrow at 7 30 p m in the parking lot on Bishop Avenue and Baltimore Pike. D Day World War II Korea Vietnam and Desert Storm veterans will be remembered with a flag blessing flag raising and half staffing of the colors. Local veterans and families of fallen soldiers will receive honors while Knights of Columbus members and area police departments attend.
