Pittsburgh man undergoes rare split liver transplant
Russell Whiteside, 44, of Boothwyn, received 80 percent of a donor liver in an experimental split-liver transplant at Presbyterian University Hospital. The operation, the third of its kind there, followed 18 hours of surgery and is administered with the FK506 anti rejection drug. White side remains in critical condition in intensive care as doctors monitor for infection and rejection.
