Amusement ride collapse injures 24 at Decatur fair

Two dozen youths were hurt when a Round-Up ride at Fairview Park Fun Fair malfunctioned near closing time. A pin in the hydraulic lift apparently broke, causing panels to drop and the ride to lurch. Twenty two treated and released, two hospitalized. ride operated by Jackson's United Shows of Florida.

Bar Crowd Riots in Tampa Prompt Police Response

In Tampa crowds sparked a weekend of chaos at multiple bars. Twenty riot police faced bottle throwing and a shootout at one bar but no shots were fired by police and no arrests were made. Two officers were hit by debris in a prior melee in the same neighborhood.

Overhead Hurdle Heat Strands 550 On NYC NJ Train

In hot Newark conditions a Penn Station to New Jersey commuter train stalled in a westbound Hudson River tunnel as overhead power lines snagged by the train cut air conditioning and lights. NJ Transit said more than 550 riders endured two hours of darkness before being guided a half mile through the tunnel to an exit near the Lincoln Tunnel. Twenty passengers were treated for heat effects and released.
