In a Manhattan courtroom, John Lennon’s killer was sentenced to 20 years to life after a plea that included reading a passage from Catcher in the Rye as his final words. The defendant cited a radical mental state and his defense team referenced psychiatric testimony.
UPI report says the Senate Ethics Committee unanimously recommended expulsion of Sen. Harrison Williams of New Jersey for ethically repugnant conduct tied to Abscam. Williams, convicted on nine counts of bribery and conspiracy, offered no immediate comment as lawmakers weighed the action.
