Illegally delivered baby in-home by mentally troubled mother
An unmarried woman in her 20s in Ithaca delivered a 2 pound baby at seven months and performed an in home surgery with a penknife after getting up Saturday night. She chewed the umbilical cord and sutured wounds, risking internal injury. The infant, Anna, was in fair condition in Syracuse while the mother remained hospitalized in serious condition with a history of mental problems.

Woman Saves Tour Bus From Fatal Crash in Wellsville
In Wellsville Ohio a tour bus with 30 passengers faced a fatal threat when the driver Dwight Bartles suffered a heart attack. Isabel Harding a 65 year old from Midland Pennsylvania ran to the front, took the wheel and braked the bus, stopping it against a medial barrier to avert disaster. Police credited her quick action with preventing a crash.
