A confessed slayer is being held without bail as authorities pursue the case. A native Texas organization formed in San Antonio prompts commentary on birthplaces versus lives.
A Houston Post report details Governor Allred forcing a special session costing $200,000 to repeal pari mutuel betting and outlaw bookies and dog races in Texas. The session ends with horse racing banned after May 22, while dog races and betting face severe penalties. Allred hints a September tax session may follow.
Eugene Border, 22, remanded to Val Verde County Jail on a $300 bond after failing to pay in a theft case linked to about $15 taken from a cash register at the North Side Service Station. He previously served time for auto theft in Pennsylvania and returned to Del Rio last week amid further trouble. Meanwhile in Youngstown Ohio, 15500 workers returned to steel plants as a seven state strike persisted and CIO leaders claimed strength while companies reported normal operations. The Senate post office committee ended its strike investigation without further hearings.
Big Spring Independent School District voters on Saturday rejected a tax increase from 1 to 1.50 and a $65,000 bond issue. The tax hike lost 279 to 157 and the bond proposal failed 281 to 148.
Governor Allred urged local officers to back the anti bookie bill and end bookmaking in Texas amid praise for telephone and telegraph firms for cutting service to bookmaking houses. Over the weekend twenty two people died violent deaths in Texas including traffic crashes and shootings. The Senate Judiciary Committee plans July 21 consideration of all pending constitutional amendment proposals affecting the judiciary.
Mexico's Department of Communication urges the National Railroad to extend from San Carlos to Villa Acuna. Technicians report that upgrading the section between Villa Acuna and San Carlos would boost agriculture and the livestock industry in Coahuila.
Collier Hopkins, a 11 year Del Rio postal worker, moves to the Brawley post office. Cal James L Harlan of Brawley will replace Hopkins in Del Rio after Hopkins departed last week.
In Uvalde during a vacation, Vice President John N. Garner praises fishing over President Roosevelt’s stamp collecting. He plans to test new bait from tackle makers, notes his skill with various fishing methods, and hints at thinning local squirrels to protect a forthcoming pecan crop. He greets visitors informally and says appointments aren’t guaranteed.
Seven cases heard at a special term of Federal District Court in Del Rio before Judge R J McMillan. All defendants pleaded guilty and waived jury trials. One defendant faced Mann Act violation and received five years imprisonment. Remaining cases involved immigration act violations with guilty pleas. two old cases were dismissed.
Water from Moore Park pool and hydrants tested in Austin shows no contamination. Dr. Bohls reports the monthly results as good with the pool designed for continuous flowing water and periodic draining to maintain sanitation. city health officer Dr York notes the findings.

The entered apprentice degree will be conferred after the services.
Senate and House conferees reached a speedy accord on the $1.5 billion relief bill after trimming $8 million from PWA funds. Congressional chiefs said the measure would be sent to both Houses for approval today with few other changes.
Judge J. F Mullally of the 49th Judicial District marked his 80th birthday at his Laredo residence on Saturday. He is a close friend of Judge Joseph Jones of Del Rio, a friendship spanning more than 40 years, and will preside over a city case in his court on July 12.
W C Abbey longtime San Angelo district agent and former president of the local Life Underwriters group has been promoted to assistant to Vice President Seaborn Whatley at Aetna Life. He will assume duties at the Hartford home office after leaving San Angelo.
Robert Irwin, a former divinity student and sculptor, is held without bail after two court appearances in New York on Easter Sunday triple murder charges. He dismissed fears of insanity and hired Samuel Leibowitz to defend him, with the district attorney expecting an insanity defense and presenting confession statements to a grand jury. Irwin, sought nationwide since the victims Veronica Gedeon her mother and a roomer Frank Byrnes were found, surrendered in Chicago and was brought to New York by plane. He admitted the killings to Lt Owens, was fingerprinted and photographed, and faces extradition procedures. Irwin appeared confident as he was processed by police before departure for further proceedings.
In Wellesley Massachusetts thirty five members of the graduating class were eligible for the traditional ceremony at the annual senior banquet. The event highlighted couples engaged to be married among the attendees.
The House approved Sumners bill by 218 to 126 to create a trial process to oust a federal judge. The plan would add a three judge panel from the Circuit Courts of Appeals and a House board of managers would act as prosecutors with charges brought like impeachments.
