Six Del Ricans Attend Medical Society Meeting

Six Del Ricans attended the Nine Counties Medical Society meeting in Crystal City during the regular session. Attendees included Dr Elizabeth Donaldson and Dr R N Graham with Dr Joel Sanders and Dr D A York among others. The business session set 10 am as the meeting time and the next gathering will be in Uvalde on September 10.

Final Services For Rev G A Davis In Del Rio

Final services for Rev George A Davis pastor of the Church of God in Del Rio will be held Sunday at 2 pm from the Doran Chapel with Rev M B Boucher of San Antonio officiating. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery under Doran Funeral Home. He died Friday morning after several days critical illness. Born June 13 1881 he came to Del Rio five years ago from Holyoke Cole. He served in the Philippine Islands with Camp Las Moras No 58 and was wounded three times. Survived by his widow and two daughters Lindal and Anna.

New London School District appoints, quits new superintendent

New London officials say T. M. Jones, named three weeks ago as superintendent, has resigned. Jones filled the vacancy after W. C. Shaw left. Reagan, president of the school board, offered no reason for the abrupt departure.

Funeral Services For Barto L. Cain

Funeral services for Barto L. Cain, 43, Del Rio railroad brakeman, are set for 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Grand View in North Texas. Cain died Friday morning in a Houston hospital after extended treatment. A Del Rio resident since 1927, he served in World War I with Company L of the 312th Infantry. His mother Mrs. Etta Stewart of Grand View and two sisters survive. Cain was well known to Del Rioans during his decade of residence.

Arredondo and Munoz Receive One Year Each for Aggravated Assault

Anselmo Arredondo and Mace doonio Munoz were sentenced to one year in Val Verde County jail dating from April 7 after pleading guilty to aggravated assault. They were previously found guilty of assault with intent to rape in a 1936 trial later reversed by the Court of Criminal Appeals. The appellate ruling held the state failed to prove the specific intent to rape at the time of the acts. The state may move to dismiss the felony charges.

David S. Baker Funeral Rites Held in Comstock

Funeral services for 93 year old ranchman David Shepherd Baker were held Friday at 5 p.m. in Comstock with the Rev LC Beasley and the local Masonic Lodge assisting. Interment followed in Comstock Cemetery. Baker died Friday morning at his Devils River ranch near old Fort Hudson after a long illness. He moved to Val Verde County in 1882 and helped pioneer the range country. Survivors include five children, 120 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a brother J Ho Baker and sister Mrs Martha Muller of New Mexico.

Injured Del Rio teens in running board accident

Minx Marie Holden and Miss Barbara Daniels suffered injuries when two girls riding on a running board of a car were thrown into a guard rail on a Devil River road. Holden had a severe thigh wound exposing bone. Daniel's right ankle was injured and placed in a plaster cast. Both were treated at Williams Sanitarium and taken to recuperate at home in Del Rio.
