Residents in Waterman backed two school bond proposals in Saturday ballots. About 100 votes favored the grade school bond of roughly 12,000 while the high school bond of 10,000 drew 176 approving votes to 27 opposed. Precinct results show broad community backing with large turnout and pages of blueprints reviewed by residents.
The high school orchestra at First Lutheran church performed a program of nature themed pieces as part of the Sunday service. Directed by Ed Chonette the ensemble drew an unusually large audience and featured Ralph Howard Jr on trombone and Marion Wirtz with Betty Whittaker in a vibrophone duet The group will participate in the district contest here Friday to showcase selections for the concert.
C F Hotchkiss local agent for M S P and P railroad fell suddenly ill Saturday evening with acute illness. He was taken home and remained seriously ill overnight. Reports today said he was much improved. Raymond, a son and North Shore railroad car assistant, arrived yesterday to visit his parents.
Pat Callahan a veteran city employee left St. Marys hospital to recuperate at home this morning. He suffered a broken knee cap weeks ago after a fall from a wagon while working at Huntley Park.
Lydia Ann Porter born Bundy, a Hartford native, became one of DeKalb city’s first women to run a business. She operated a millinery and dress shop and employed several girls, later also selling dry goods from a building once housing Fitzgerald Bros. Her work as a Baptist church member and W C T U active leader is noted. she died in 1901 at 74.
Chicago investigators joined Cook and Lake counties to identify a blond female burned in a summer cottage west of Waukegan after Major Calvin Goddard linked the victim to a 24 hour death prior to cremation. Suspects include Mrs. Frank Biege and Marian Miller, brunettes matching the description.

Bennie Rosene and Howard J. Martin were arrested after being seen entering the deserted Chicago & North Western depot in Rochelle at midnight. Police found a revolver and brass knuckles on the duo, they confessed plans to rob the depot safe, and were bound over to the Ogle County grand jury with bonds of 3000 each.
Cyrus Dunlop two year old son of Mr and Mrs Paul Dunlop of Lee former residents of this city was brought to St Mary's hospital this morning suffering from bites on the throat and face. The dog attack occurred while playing at the home and the lad received several deep wounds. After stitches the child was taken home to Lee.
A shabbily dressed man arrives in Chicago and reveals himself as Dr. Frederick antigodk Explorer author and lecturer released from Leavenworth prison five years after a mail promotion charge. He plans two months of research with Dr. Thompson on narcotic addiction psychology and pathology and may publish his prison experiences. He hopes to return to Texas where he sees business opportunities and says he can live on little.
Word reached the city of the sudden death of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Racrowkow of South Elgin in an automobile accident near Morrison on the Li High Way. The couple were instantly killed when the car left the road and went into a ditch. reports say Mr. Racrowkow was driving and lost control.
Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd and Adolph Ochs plan a live shortwave talk from Dunedin and Schenectady tomorrow morning. The Byrd expedition, after a year at the ice barrier, returns to civilization amid a hero’s welcome.
News of Mrs Rose Carlson of This City dying in Rochester Minnesota at 8 60 yesterday morning. Body arrived here this morning. She had been ill for some time and entered Maya Brothers clinic for examination. Funeral private at 2 00 from the North Fourth Street home with burial in Fairview cemetery. Home open to friends 10 to 1 tomorrow. Obituary to be published Tuesday.
