Washington reports continued debate over President Wilson s letter to Senator Hitchcock as Republicans led by Lodge push a new reservation to Article X. Some Democrats reportedly consider compromise while others resist. The issue centers on the leagues concept and the path to ratification amid partisan tensions.
Final arguments in the attack on constitutional prohibition are to be heard in the supreme court. The Rhode Island bill of complaint will be completed after court meets and the Kentucky and Massachusetts appeals will be heard. Elihu Root will argue for the Kentucky liquor interests. Federal Judge John Bellstad refused to issue a preliminary injunction to restrain federal authorities from preventing the sale of 2.75 per cent beer.
United Press reports the American tanker Cubadist, which left Havana February 26, has not sent a word since leaving port. Initial sightings placed her about 11 miles off Diamond Pass as fears for her safety rise. Six other Shipping Board vessels signaling for aid are being towed to nearby ports.

Joe Chambers was named Exalted Ruler with Ronan Esteemed Leading Knight, Clarence Emery Loyal Knight, Milo Quip F Esteemed Lecturing Knight, Killian secretary, Carl Beckman treasurer, Basset Tyler, and Co A Anderson Kingsley Hollies Flusch reelected as trustees.

A freight train wreck at the Fox River crossing near Geneva yesterday involved 16 cars loaded with coal, six tumbling into the river. Both tracks reopened though cars remained in the water. no injuries were reported and Northwestern wrecking crew praised for rapid clearance.
DeKalb citizens plan a school banquet for the basketball team followed by a 7:30 pm public mass meeting in the high school gym. Mayor Wagley, Professor Whitten, and school officials will speak along with Clarence Stegmier captain. The event includes songs and cheers to celebrate the team’s success at Rockford.
London society figure W Knightsmith of Hammersmith guides etiquette at major events surveyed by the press service. He has served as Royal Toastmaster and officiated for six kings and numerous princes, touting old city companies as models of dignified ceremonies.

In Chicago on March 9, maintenance of way workers and shop laborers voted to stay with other railroad unions. Edward C Curtis longtime state Republican leader died at his Grant Park home yesterday afternoon after a two week battle with pneumonia. Delegates to the constitutional convention approved resolutions praising him and named a funeral committee as his widow and two sons Alana and Monroe mourn his loss while another son was en route from Hanover New Hampshire.
American Legion members report missing copies of the official weekly, now moved from Washington. The last issue dated February 15, the next due March 12, with all subscriptions and payments to be sent through department headquarters to national headquarters.
Rev. J. A. Solon hosts Chicago architect Mr. Foster visiting the proposed hospital site. Foster recently completed Misericordia hospital in Chicago and toured St. Mary's school, praising the building.
The adjourned city council session was unusually short. Daylight saving ordinance was dropped for lack of support. A plan to issue 45 000 in bonds for a new city hospital was abandoned since it could not be done before the new fiscal year begins. No hospital funding was in the current appropriation ordinance.

The Kishwaukee Country Club board approved an associate membership allowing 16 to 21 year olds, whose parents are nonmembers, to join with a nominal initiation fee. They may become regular members at 21 by paying regular dues. The move aims to cultivate young golfers and boost new applications for a strong year.

Mrs. Peter Beiser a well known DeKalb resident died this afternoon at 602 Deal Avenue after a five week illness. Born January 13 in Ohio she was 78. She leaves husband Peter Beiser two daughters Mrs Henry Anderson Malta and Mrs William Zeller Norwich N Y and son Arthur Maurer Minneapolis. She was active in the Methodist church and local women’s groups.
Mary Gallagher formerly Mary Dusan, born 1824 in County Dublin Island, died at her daughter’s home 424 Euclid Avenue Chicago. Survived by son Felix of North Dakota and daughters Mrs Pat Prenty Mrs Pat Dotfey and Mrs C Springer with 24 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements not yet made.
At the National Aircraft Show in New York preparations are under way to move two flying boats from San Francisco to Manila and to China. The craft will be twice as large as the trans Atlantic flyer and are currently under construction.
Eleven Massachusetts towns reported votes for licenses at county elections held yesterday. No town sustained the prohibition amendment. Rete Ogee Barton, Mass. March 9.

Two names dominate the chatter for the chairmanship Senator Lodge and Elihu Root with Wood supporters leaning to Root. Other names include Joseph Dixon and Meath McCormick. Hitchcock and Wood boosters plan talks as platform work advances under Will Hays.
In Rochelle a tight election passed bonds totaling 150000 for a new school house on the School District No. 212 site in Lee and Ogle counties. The measure carried 287 for and 77 against with 369 voters participating and five ballots discarded. The plan follows past delays due to war and industrial upturn, with Spencer and Son of Chicago to prepare bid specs. The school board includes President Jessie H. Downer and Secretary Adah S. Kahler among others.
Oregon swept two of three girls and boys basketball games against Rochelle Friday night. The Featherweights beat the Rochelle Freshmen 7 5. Oregon edged Rochelle in the town team contest last minute. Key players included Wickenworker Karne Pelsma and Hays Wade Carpenter Bergener Jonson Walkup Burne and Wield goals Pee 2 Hayes 3.
Washington March 9 Rear Admiral Sims told the Senate Naval Affairs subcommittee the navy department delayed allied cooperation during the first months of World War I. He described a vacillating hand to mouth approach that prolonged the war and cost lives and money, defending his public charges against Secretary Daniels and naval leadership.
Coroner reports Clifford Bleyer and Mrs Ruth Randall killed themselves after Bleyer shot him while he slept and then killed Mrs Randall. The two bodies were found in Mrs Randall's third floor flat at 2607 Lake Park Avenue with a revolver between them. Bleyer, 36, advertising man, was married with two children. Randall, 50, recently divorced. The coroner's jury plans to hear the report later today.
State highway officials delayed a formal road policy statement as a meeting planned for March 9 failed to produce a decision. Without Director Bennett present, officials appeared hesitant to announce whether further road contracts would be awarded while road prices remained high.
