Tragic Train Wreck Claims Kalamazoo Normal Alumnus
Deep sorrow fills the Normal School faculty as they report the death of Miss Fanny Ballou of Kalamazoo Michigan in the Porter Indiana train wreck Sunday night. Ballou, class of 1909 of Northern Illinois State Normal, had been head primary critic at Kalamazoo Normal and contributed widely to education journals. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Teachers College Columbia in February and recently aided her mother’s birthday in Glen Ellyn before her untimely death on the return trip. DeKalb friends and Columbia’s Teachers College recall her as a popular, gracious student with superior work and broad extending influence.
