Stamford CT July 17 Relatives of Mrs Ernest Farnum who disappeared from Stamford in 1916 positively identified a body found nearby as the missing woman but Mr Farnum said today they were mistaken. Reading in a Boston paper that the remains had been identified as Mrs Farnum he took the first train there and went to the home of Mrs Ernest Wood, who denied the body was that of the missing woman.
Old timers report a large increase in ground hogs across the area. Motorists note many along roads as hunters profit from a 25 cent bounty per scap.
Cherries as big as apricots arrive from John Nelson farm as a plentiful and delicious crop fills the Chronicle. Despite the abundance, pickers face a slow market since many homes have only one or two fruit trees. Residents are urged to place ad requests for fresh cherries.

United Press report from July 17 aboard the Destroyer Goldsborough. The Shamrock V and the Resolute began their cup series after a wind delay, with Resolute first to cross the line. By 2:15 p.m. Resolute led windward by a third of a mile. by 2:40 p.m. Resolute trailed slightly as Shamrock pressed ahead, the range finder later showing Shamrock 400 yards ahead but 700 yards leeward.

A mail train bound for Londonderry was halted by 100 armed raiders who seized official mail and fled. The incident, reported by United Press in Belfast, occurred in July.
CWesgo July 17 The United States railway labor board began duties on a hearing of new wage demands by railway employees for higher pay. The claims include a 20 cent per hour increase for certain workers and a corresponding boost for railroad trainmen. The cases are for employees not covered by existing awards and will be considered Tuesday.
United States New York police detained Jerry Ruberto De Wolff in connection with the murder of Alfredo Gragiana in front of an East Side restaurant. Investigators say De Wolff and Gragiana were fierce enemies over a woman known in cabarets as Loretta LeRoy. Witnesses include Kitty Plinn, Wilson Jackson, and Pasquillies Finn.
