Gas Blaze Is Put Out At Wild Abe Well
Wewoka Oklahoma December 22 The third effort to extinguish the Wild Abe gas well on the Dewoka Townsite succeeded. A 45 pound nitro gelatin charge detonated near the blaze snuffed it out before 9 a.m. Harry and M M Kinley, famed wild well fighters, placed the charge after two failed attempts Sunday. The blast sent dust and debris high as the gas column of about 60 million cubic feet daily was driven deep and then burned out. Control work began with a special machine as crews prepared to shut in the well. A northwest wind kept oil and gas spray from the city but coated Highway No 270 detouring traffic. several houses and a Prairie Oil and Gas pipeline station were sprayed.
