Elmer Stone injured in a ditch collision on Route south of town. He remains home with possible stomach rupture while DeKalb seeks a $15,000 chest quota. Campaign workers plan last hour pledges from banks and businesses, aiming to reach the goal before Monday night.
Attorney A G Kennedy envisions a fireproof arcade in his Fourth street building with 14 steel compartments each about 150 square feet. Three street entrances, 18 feet frontages, nine feet depth per shop, central aisle, and window display space. Rent set nominal. utilities provided. renters pay for special lighting. Kennedy seeks six tentative occupants to proceed.
The Illinois Northern Utilities Company will cut gas service from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. tomorrow to install new valves at the plant. Fire whistle warnings will precede the shutdown and an official will be available at the company office to assist residents with adjustments.
Merchants in the city were today re erecting Christmas trees to be placed in front of their shops for the holidays. The trees will be lighted and decorated over the next day or two as part of the merchants city wide Christmas decoration plan. Electric lights have been strung along ornamental light posts in the business district this week. The trees arrived yesterday and were being delivered yesterday afternoon and today.
Dorothy Jane Garrett, 12, of Cortland, was seriously injured Thursday after slipping on ice at school. Doctors reported a broken shoulder blade. She is the granddaughter of C. W. Hite of Cortland.

Wright was grandson of Mrs. Charles Wright of Sycamore and the late Charles G. Wright.
Raymond Rensing of New Baden admits to the murder of Justus Nungesser at a Mas coutah farm on September 9. He implicates Valentine Herpstrich and Elmer Lintner, with all three held in St. Clair county jail awaiting first degree murder arraignments.
In Rockford Illinois on December 8 the Reed murder trial nears its end as Judge Fischer signals a night session. Paul Reed testified in his own defense denying involvement in the dynamite setup that killed Vernon Plager and describing his alleged relationship with Mrs Ivy Plager. He admitted stealing dynamite but claimed not to be near the Plager home the night before the killing.
Evar Swanson, a DeKalb basketball player traded by the Mission of the Pacific Coast League to the Cincinnati Reds of the National League, will return to this city mid January. He is now in San Francisco with the club and will not resume basketball this winter due to his major league status.

An explosion in the pump room of the American oil tanker Gulf Line near its crew quarters killed at least three crew members and injured several others in Port Arthur Texas. Rescue teams battled through the wreckage to reach the remaining survivors.

Plaintiffs include Mid-Continent Refining Pierce Petroleum Sinclair Roxana George C Peters Blue Ribbon, all foreign corporations. Seven state suits remain pending in federal court.
Rail traffic near the city was halted yesterday due to a derailment on the west bound track about three miles west. A heavily loaded defective car derailed causing west bound service to stop until late afternoon while a wrecker was dispatched to the scene.
