Earl Herbert, 35, named by Chicago police as a member of the Joe Saltis gang, will reside in DeKalb County for one year after being jailed in Sycamore. He was fined 1000 dollars and faces a federal sentence for prohibition act violations. Herbert expected special prisoners’ privileges and referred to the county jail’s so called blue room. Bandit Slain By Policeman in Windy City
Chicago December 6 U P A police officer killed a bandit during a nighttime confrontation raising the toll of bandits slain by officers to a dozen since John Stege became deputy commissioner. Thomas Stevens 30 was slain by Detective Simon Kennedy when the bandit returned to his former landlord’s home seeking revenge for tipping off police. Stevens was one of three men who held up a hotel manager and actor and escaped with loot.
