Mrs. George W. Plummer addressed a large DeKalb Farmers' picnic audience combining humor with practical advice. She drew on twenty years of farm life to urge better health, organized help, and simpler routines, noting many farm chores are needless and stressing training of children to assist at home.
A field day led by Dr W J Burlison of the University of Illinois drew about 250 farmers to the experimental field to study soybeans and corn root rot, discuss disease prevention with lime and rock phosphate, and review crop rotation. The event featured stock judging by 13 DeKalb county boys, with judges planning awards tomorrow and calls for more farming youth engagement.
Lenis Nelson 27 of DeKalb is reported electrocuted while on duty in Portage Wisconsin sub stations. The fire at Kirkland sheep yards owned by John McQueen destroyed a baled hay and straw building, killing Nelson and causing losses over 6000 dollars. Tramps asleep in the yard suspected to have sparked the blaze. The blaze drew crowds and interrupted a chautauqua program. Fire burns slowly. may last a week. Insurance men arrived as authorities plan rebuilds.

Harold Fawcett son of Mr and Mrs Tom Fawcett resigns from Foiles garage and begins store training under Mr Kirk at Great American. After initial guidance he will run a DeKalb area store with aim of becoming manager at another location aided by Mrs Fawcett. locals expect strong business.
Illinois Commerce Commission orders Illinois Northern Utilities Company to appear in Springfield on September 7 to explain why rate increases should not be discontinued and to propose new regulations for electric and gas service.

Bruno S. Odugkis, proprietor of an East End barber shop, was held up by two assailants on his bicycle last night on North Sixth street. About $3 in small change was taken. A dark street and a out of service corner light aided the crime. no description of the attackers was given.
The Chronicle received a letter signed only by "A Slave" about a steel company and refused to publish due to lack of a real name. It notes the paper requires signed communications and expresses sympathy with parts of the message.
Farmer Henry Wallace head of the agriculture department arrives in DeKalb to address over three thousand farmers.
