Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pinafore set for a public performance at the Assembly with a large crowd expected tomorrow. Children’s hour and evening recital announced as part of the event in a bustling community venue.
Tonight the famed Hecht opera tanaferito in Gilbert and Sullivan production is praised as a landmark event. Previous Mikado and Chocolat Soldier performances in the city are recalled as readers expect a packed audience for this debut. Last night Opie Real presented Human Nature and Politics to acclaim. Tomorrow features the comedy Nothing But the Truth adaptation from a novel.
A 95 year old man with memories of Crimean Delhi and Bull Run begins selling newspapers in Chicago. Charles Henry Goodson says he was born in London in 1826 served as a medical officer in camps and later joined the Confederate army. He once had wealth but now gives to charity.
An inquest opened in Chicago into the death of Howard B Rhodes who was shot while riding with Mrs Gladys Jacobson. She drove the bale to a hospital with Rhodes’s body beside her, while her former husband secured her release on the eve of the hearing.
Joe Monkavitch, badly burned when tar exploded, remains in serious condition but is somewhat better. Doctors report a relatively comfortable 24 hours given the severity of his burns and note his one leg is in very bad shape, delaying recovery.

Gerald Strark, a landowner from Landers, claimed self defense as his party’s quarrel over insults to Miss Mary Kane escalated. Mrs Stack, with two children, was at a hotel when Stack was detained after a visit suggestion.
Tomorrow the Pisk Motor company brings a Ford tractor school to the Schryver farm two and a half miles north of DeKalb. About 16 tractors will be shown and run through their paces each day an even 100 units arriving daily. Delegates from Illinois Wisconsin Iowa and Indiana will attend demonstrations and classes.

DeKalb friends mourn the death of Ira Cosper age about 35 at his Meadowlands home after returning from Chicago where doctors operated weeks earlier. He fell ill after a 12 o'clock episode the night of arrival and died despite quick medical aid. Cosper, formerly of Texas, worked for the electric company and later American Steel and Wire. Funeral details will be announced later.
Superintendent H V Vierig of Northern Utilities departs tonight for Marshfield Wisconsin to assume charge of a newly completed plant. He is succeeded by J McCabe who has long overseen the gas plant. Vierig leaves a strengthened operation and many friends.
Electric Park hosts a dance night tomorrow with a featured singer performing for guests. Tickets are available at the gate and nearby venues.
Scouts skip tonight due to chautauqua on site. Next Tuesday the meeting moves to ward of J A Spickerman with Secondmaster as host. Examinations will be given to boys who can pass them as in prior meetings.
Local city team, unbeaten this season, travels to Belvidere to face the Union City fast team. After winning all three Woodstock county fair games, a large fan turnout is expected for what may be a hard fought contest this season.
A misprint in last Saturday's paper stated the army field clerk would be at the post office yesterday. The clerk will be there Wednesday instead, and men who wish to obtain the medal may present their discharges at that time.
Reverend Evans arrives back from a European and American study trip at the Great Winona Lake conference. He will hold the first Methodist Episcopal service Thursday at 7 30 PM, with regular services on Sunday.
Olsten and Norby are painting the meat market today redecorating the outfit in first class condition. Workers expect they will be nearly finished by night.

In Worcester England on August 21 Karl Dunwal died after five days without food. He had been jailed for contempt of court for insisting on reoccupying his home after eviction. The death marks the first hunger strike fatality in a British prison.
Mrs Henry Decker wife of Sycamore Sheriff halted a jail escape by three auto theft suspects James Miloney Rudy and William Martin. Martin a locksmith and escape artist tried to shave, opened cell doors with a razor, then attacked the Decker couple as the wife warned her husband. The sheriff struck back with a billy, preventing further assault and thwarting the escape.

A plea asks for a photo of the most beautiful girl in De Kalb County to be sent to the Beautiful Girl Committee. The winner, who leads the parade, will receive a loving cup and no photo will be published or publicized until she appears in the Labor Day parade.
