Steamship sizes to 1,000 feet foreseen by expert Corthell
Engineer Elmer L. Corthell predicts dramatic growth in ship design within 42 years. Largest twenty steamers would reach 1,000 ft length and 100 ft breadth with 30,000 gross tonnage, from today’s 640 ft and 17,151 tons. He cites past works at Eads jetties, Tehuantepec Railway surveys, World Fair efforts, and harbor projects as basis for his forecast.
