Grand Jury Report in Defiance County 1902

Grand jury reports after five days in session examining over thirty three witnesses in nine cases. They present two bills, ignore seven, and visit the county jail finding rules followed but urge a padded cell for insane confinement. Indictments include Bear Schlembach and William Price for grand larceny and robbery. Court adjourns to Monday with Judge Hubbard.

Young Business Men Form Defiance Board of Trade

Last evening in Defiance, numerous young business men organized The Board of Trade of Defiance at 7:30 pm in Manager Ed S. Bronson’s office. Officers elected for one year include Frank J. Poppenhagen president and first vice president Art Craven. Walter Shelly treasurer. Henry Jenning secretary. Ed S. Bronson. a constitution committee chaired by Frank P. Weisenburger with Chas E. Man Survives Bull Attack After Sale to Jewell

H Neaderhauser of Tiffin township was badly hurt when a bull he recently sold to Ford Mekus of Jewell attacked him while tied to a wagon. The 2000 pound bull broke free, charged the man damaging his face and body until bystander help bound the animal to a tree. Neaderhauser collapsed and was taken home.

Strange Mix Up On Wheels Thursday

In Hicksville on Thursday Haman Heidy rode a new bicycle to town and left it curbside near King and Weber’s. Wm Etchen rode his wheel to Ort and Gilson hardware and Fred Ort borrowed it to go to W A Kehnast Co. He then swapped wheels, Etchen’s wheel returned home, Heidy’s wheel vanished replaced by an old one. Police watched the King’s curb all day. late the swap was revealed and Heidy left town believing he had been robbed.

Judge W H Hubbard presided. Bear Schlembach was sentenced to Toledo work house for 15 days after an indictment for bicycle theft. William Price was arraigned for robbery and pleaded not guilty with J P Cameron appointed defense. Henry Houtz faced burglary charges, pleaded not guilty, with W D Hill to defend. trial set for Friday next week.
