Carrie Meek of East Defiance lost an arm after being thrown from a street car on Oct 12 1899. Guardian Mary I Meek sues People's Gas and Electric Co for 9500 dollars, claiming motorman approval and company negligence. Lawyers Harris Cameron and Shaw for the plaintiff.
The Democratic club hosted a full dinner banquet at Miss Mabel Winn's home on Saturday night. Red white and blue decorations and a Bryan portrait framed the event, with Donell Krotz and Sarah Winn serving in tin dinner pails. Attendees included Bessie Reynolds, Nannie Hubbard, Leona Oxenrider, Maud Harley, Grace Whitaker, Gussie Brown, Maud Conkle, Bessie Woodward, Helen Deindoerfer, Hannah Harry, Jennie Lieberthal, Mabel Winn, Bruce Davis, Bart Harris, Ned Hubbard, Ric Brown, Carl Dupont, Tom Gorman, Virgil Weisenburger, Tad Chenevert, Walter Wilhelm, Albert Sites, and Claude Winn.

St. John's Reformed Church at Fourth and Washington with Rev. F E Lahr as pastor invites all to services next Sunday. Sunday school at 9 am, German service at 10 am, and a later German service at Sherwood at 2 15 pm. All are welcome.
Adam Ort of South Richland township died in a river plunge on Fourth Street near Washington in the Auglaize river incident. His horse followed and also drowned. A local crowd assisted, the body was recovered, and Coroner R B Cameron ruled drowning as the cause. Ort, 40, left a wife and seven children, and funeral prayers were held at the family home before interment at Riverside cemetery.
Miss Birdie Meeks, long connected with the Defiance Express, has severed her connection with the paper. She is regarded as a capable newspaper woman and should excel in the field wherever she chooses to work. The Express management praises her faithful service and loyalty.

D A English a well known Defiance township resident died at his home south of Defiance at 2 am Sunday aged 50 years 8 months 13 days He suffered a severe leg injury Wednesday when his buggy wheel crushed and tore flesh He left a wife and ten children after two marriages He served as county surveyor and recently worked in real estate The funeral is set for 1 30 pm Tuesday at Oakwood Church Defiance township
