Franchise Granted for City Street Railway Route
By unanimous vote the city council granted a franchise to the Indiana Columbus & Eastern Traction Co. to build a street railway through the city. The ordinance requires sealed fare bids and three publishings, with construction to begin by June 1 1906 and finish within a year. The line would run from the C L M terminus near Clipper Plow Co. through Greenler Second streets to Clinton Wayne streets, looping back to Second. The crossing of the Auglaize river bridge requires county approval. The franchise lasts 25 years with provisions for single or double track. Some merchants opposed it on Clinton street but the vote was unanimous. Walter Ritchie and Robert Edson attended.
