Secretary John P Hay Dies After Health Fades

Special from Newbury New Hampshire reports Secretary John P Hay died at 12 25 AM in Washington D C following pulmonary embolism. He had returned from Europe and was to rest at Lake Sunapee. The notice lists family, doctors, and recent travels along with local obituaries and a rumor that Wabash pay cars may be converted to checks.

Board hearing minutes and coal bids at Central school

The board of education convened to read minutes and review invoices. Discussed coal contracts with bids from Houck Spangler Dohoney Pierce Norman Miller and others. Miller won soft coal and Pierce anthracite. Prices were lower than last year saving about 315 per ton soft coal and 7.85 per ton anthracite. About 25 cords of wood to accompany the coal were approved for quotation.

Public Safety Board Prepares Semiannual Budget

At the regular meeting the board estimated expenses from July to December 1905 and approved bills higher than usual. The city received 30 from the state for fire engine repairs and 24 from Carnival dues for police during the Red Men carnival. Mayor Cameron named J H Kreps library special policeman. The semiannual totals cover general administration, police, and fire departments with notable items including hose purchase and apparatus costs.

B and O Sells Round Trip Excursion Fares to Hamilton

From June 30 and July 1 the B and O will offer excursion tickets from all local stations west of Pittsburg and Wheeling and the Ohio River division at one fare plus 25 cents for the round trip to Hamilton for the Swiss American Central Saengerfest with return travel valid through July 5.
