Carnival Season Opens With King Carnival Parade

The carnival season began with a grand Monday night parade in Defiance. Citizens packed Clinton Street to welcome the King, as a decorated barge, guards, and a Defiance Military band led the procession to the Opera House where Edward S. Bronson received the city keys. The board of trade praised the event and predicted a grand week ahead if weather allows, ending with July 4 as the crowning day.

Fourth of July plans outlined by postoffice and Citizens' committee

The Fourth of July celebrations will be coordinated by the Citizens' committee with participation by post office staff. The post office opens 8 a.m. and closes 10 a.m. The letter carriers conduct a single general delivery at 7:30 a.m. and the parade starts at 10 a.m. Rural carriers will not make trips. The postmaster notes limits on marching line and personnel.

Wedding at St Marys Church North Ridge

Miss Rose Schlemach and Mr Tom Wisda wed at St Marys Catholic Church officiated by Rev Francis Doherty. The bride wore white silk with pearl lace and carried a prayer book. Attendant Miss Sarah Wisda wore dotted Swiss and carried pink carnations. Best man was Frank Schweitzer. They plan a North Ridge home and a bridal breakfast followed for family and invited guests.

Directors named include H P Miller H K Reynolds J W Lynde Dr John J Stitt Cyril Barbeau Philip Lawrence and R H Gleason with Miller as president Reynolds as vice president Stitt as second VP Lynde treasurer and Gleason secretary. The firm owns dredging patents by Reynolds to exploit gold bearing river sands across Alaska to Mexico with plans to build the first machine and begin operations soon. A notable feature of Money evening parade was A G McClary’s automobile display.
