A Chance for a Good Factory in the City

At a meeting of the Corru gated Metal Culvert Manufacturers of America held at the Crosby house last week, officers were elected led by President W. G. O Neall and Vice President J E Pyle. The group plans to buy steel in bulk and push culvert sales in central and western states with a view to establishing a local plant if county commissioners approve. A sample culvert sits in front of the opera house.

Board of Health Approves Salaries for City Officials

The board of health met in the mayor's office on Monday approving salaries for J M Forst as clerk at 500 and Dr Westrick as health officer at 1667. Reports from the sanitary police and health officer were filed. December saw seven deaths and no contagious disease. Dr Westrick to represent the local board at the state meeting January 27 and 28.

Port Arthur Finally Surrenders Threats Rise at Sea

Special to Express Cheiu reports four Russian torpedo boat destroyers the Skory Stratni Viastni and Serdity reaching an unnamed port from Port Arthur. Other destroyers were believed to head to Tsingtau while Japanese destroyers were sighted in the distance. Dispatches were sent ashore as ships planned to sail again amid continued heavy Japanese bombardment and harbor conditions after the capture of 203 Meter Hill.

Hilton Sentenced After Guilty Plea in Assault Case

Brice Hilton pled guilty to assault with intent to commit a crime and received one year in the Ohio penitentiary. Judge Hubbard imposed the sentence after Hilton, advised by his attorney J W Winn, chose to admit guilt due to ill health and prior confinement. The offense occurred in November in Dr. Westrick’s office involving Polk Elliott who was drunk at the time.
