Ten bribery charges lead to guilty pleas from four men tied to the Henry County infirmary. Judge Donnelly, on his last day, imposes fines of 100 dollars and disqualifications. Amid statements, officials are condemned for a “stench” in county history. Grand jury indicts 38 saloonists for Sunday openings and liquor law breaches.
Obituaries report the death of Mary Lentz at her daughter’s Jewell home on Friday at 1 PM. Born January 25, 1826, she was Elias Lentz’s widow. Services were held at the Free Methodist church Buckskin road with burial in Klinker cemetery. Also noted is the death of Barbara Justinger from Junction from consumption, with funeral in Junction Catholic Church. Additional items cover local notices, births, licenses, and minor injuries.

Local horsemen met at Watkins Brothers office to discuss building a half mile track on Island Park next spring. An informal group formed with G W Watkins as chairman and Don Abell as secretary to pursue arrangements, aiming to attract driving events and a county fair. Committee members will confer with Mr Engel to advance the project, with a permanent organization to follow.

A grand jury report in Napoleon accuses Henry Eickhoff and James Spiess of graft in appointing an infirmary superintendent. James Beggins, the new appointee, is charged with bribery. James Conway, a former Liberty Center businessman, is named as the go between. The alleged total bribe is 300 dollars with 100 to Spiess and 50 to Hickoff. others may share the remainder. Over 100 witnesses were examined and 500 pages of testimony were recorded. Guy Gilchrist of Fort Wayne visits relatives in the city.
Adam Krouse son of Leonard Krouse narrowly escaped drowning when skating the Qudelerie canal near the old Eria mills Sunday afternoon. After breaking through ice twice in a bid to reach shore two other boys Fred Wohl and Tax Ard Krouse risked their lives to rescue him. He was taken to the Cable residence nearby where he recovered from his chilly bath. E Stock and Ermine Peterson visited friends at Angola Indiana last week. Partee and Kellermeier are sawing barn timber for Dick Kemmeier for the winter, their third job this season. H L Steck has been painting at his farm, adding improvement. An accidental revolver discharge wounded Walter Carpenter son of James Carpenter who resides north of the city while hunting on the Carpenter farm. The 52 caliber bullet hit the left heel causing a painful injury.

Special to Express Lima reports a boy named Ralph, 11, son of conductor John B Waltz, drowned after breaking through thin ice on McCullough lake while skating Saturday. His companion Clauce Remagan narrowly escaped, aided by nearby witnesses and emergency responders.
Hiram Davis a 47 year old oil worker was found Sunday wedged under a flywheel in Marion County. Investigators believe he slipped into the gear while oiling the engine and was crushed to death. Six men used crowbars for nearly three hours to recover the remains.
