Hicksville L & Griffin Decry Delegate Control in Sherwood Speech
The Crescent News reports L and Griffin warning that denying Hicksville township home rule over delegate selection to county conventions would strip them of self-government. They accuse Defiance postmaster and aides of steering delegates to district and state conventions. Ex-auditor Dr J M Coombe led Hicksville’s last state convention slate with 40 to 50 votes from the township, and Hicksville has not lacked a state convention delegate in eleven years except when Coulter delegation supporters controlled the county organization.
