Defiance Water Works Case Heads to Trial
City attorneys filed in the U S circuit court an answer to the Water Company receiver suit over hydrant rents from 1898 to 1904. They cite Ohio laws restricting contract terms and lack of voters approval for a 30 year lease, arguing the alleged contract was illegal and not binding. They also challenge service quality and hydrant charges, seeking to bar recovery and note anticipated December trial.
