Death of Pioneer Jacob K Myers in Ayersville at 83
Jacob K Myers, a Defiance county pioneer and long time Highland township resident, died at his Ayersville home at age 83. He served 36 years as justice of the peace, was postmaster at Myersville for three years, and held roles with the Defiance County Agricultural Society. Born December 27, 1821 in Clermont County, he came to the county in 1850 with 80 acres purchased for 1000 dollars. He married Sarah J Wiljeman in 1841 and Elizabeth Wheeler in 1848, fathering eight children. Funeral services were held at Ayersville Methodist Church with interment in Hill Cemetery.

Dispatches from Lima claim United States Steel Corp sold its controlling stake in the Colum bus and Lake Michigan railroad to New York interests. The plan calls for a summer extension to Columbus with rails laid between Lima and West Mansfield on the T and OC line. A depot may rise and a joint station with B and O is unlikely. The northern terminus benefits and Michigan extension are discussed but await the southern extension.

Peter Schlosser Dies After Stroke in Jackson Street Home
Peter Schlosser, a prominent Defiance carriage manufacturer and longtime city leader, died Thursday at 12:30 PM at his son Fred Schlosser’s home in Jackson Street after a paralytic stroke. Born 1840 in Germany, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1861 and built a notable local business empire including two factories and the Linthicum Schlosser partnership before retirement. He served on the city council during the city hall era and on the board of health, leaving eight children from his two marriages. He was a member of the National Union and the German Aid societies.
