Now that the Clouds have rolled by and the triumphant tin horns of the Bourbon Phalanx have ceased to Bray it 1s possible to arrive at some intelligent conclusion As to just who it was that lifted the Hoof Gates tuesday of last week. Some of the Able Republican journals out Side of the state Are inclined to accept the reasons As Given by the democrats them selves. I do not i May be wrong but As every voter in Ohio will have his of non regardless of what his neighbor will say it is just As Well to let each voter stand upon the Mountain and proclaim Bis conviction the commercial Gazette and Timm Star of Cincinnati have been engaged in a go As you please tight Ever since theeler Lon regarding the result each trying to fix the blame Lor the disastrous Waterloo in Hamilton county upon the other. The Timen Star seems to think that the admissions or. Halstead was compelled to make re girding the now famous ballot Box was the shot that blotted nov. Foraker a Star out of the Polit Oil skies. I do not believe that lost the republicans Many votes. When Halstead discovered that he had been imposed upon he at once admitted his mistake. He could not Nave done any More than that. He did not wait to study Over the matter but made the retraction at once. There is no question but what that retraction did Daze the republicans for a time but they soon rallied and if there had been no other cause Foraker would Hove been elected. The Reading and exposure of the Geo. R Topp letter at Cincinnati by or. Campbell did not have much Force out Side of Hamilton county. Nor would that have been sufficient to have lost the county to Flaker. It was Well known to the people of Cincinnati regardless of party that Topp was insane at the time his letter was written and the attempt to make politic ii c in ital out of his misfortune was not countenanced by the better classes. The commercial guzzle gets Down into the meat of the Cocoa nut when it Speaks of the use the time Star made of gov. Fora Kerbs letter to mayor Mosby. The Saloon keepers of Cincinnati met in convention and resolved to openly defy the Owens sunday Law. That convention called out a letter from the governor in which he said to the mayor that he should strike the violators of the Law with a heavy hand and giving him to understand that the governor of Tim great state of Ohio stood ready to assist in carrying out the mandates of the Law. That letter the time Star put up in Black letters at the Bead of its editorial columns and kept it standing. In connection with that the times Star constantly advocated during Che Campaign an increase of the Dow Law tax from $250 to $1 too. To the Republican party sold themselves to the gang and raised the third term cry a few republicans who have been chronic offload seekers and holders All of their lives spoke All Day in Foraker s behalf and worked All night id accomplish his defeat because they were jealous of his prominence Aud were in some Way debtors of the rang. Thus equipped the War d. The men who had bought a seat in the Banate for old or. Payne hurled All of their tremendous Force against Foraker Aud quietly tapped their i Hie bellied barrel and irrigated the a cols Active District. They wanted vindication. Tile tally Sheet forgers and perpetrators of election frauds sought vindication by knocking out Foraker and wiping out the registration Laws. The liquor men arrayed their powerful influence against Foraker because he favored the Dow tax and Owens Munday Law. They want free whisky and free sundays. They opposed Foraker because he is opposed to free whisky and is in favor of keeping the Sabbath holy. The prohibitionists had As Little reason to be against Foraker As the children of Israel had to protest against Moses yet they used their toy Hatchet with All the Force they would command. The hired hessians bellowed themselves hoarse with the third term cry. The renegade night riders an Cut throats discharged their duty. That includes the Noble band of patriots who Over threw Foraker. There is not on a intelligent Man in the country who will claim that Foraker a defeat was a democratic Victory. Ohio is a Republican state and the balance of the Republican ticket was elected last week. Is that not significant that Many Good people were deceived and acted against Foraker because they did not understand the situation i truly believe. Thai Foraker went Down before the combined Force of Boodle instigators of election frauds tally Sheet forgers and men opposed to Good government no Man who Hus studied the result will attempt to deny. The result was that the liquor element was enlisted As one Man against governor Foraker. From the North East South and West came a mighty fund to be used against Nim. The liquor men and no Sabbath men were two of the most potent factors that appeared in the Cai pain. Now there is not a Law abiding citizen in Ohio who could not have stood by every word in governor Foraker a letter to mayor Mosby but the trouble was that while that letter arrayed against him some of the most dangerous enemies to Good government in this country it did not As it should have done Call to his support the United Force of workers who Are trying to christianize the world and on election Day the prohibition leaders and liquor men stood shoulder to shoulder in a Light that meant the Over throw of a clean decent Christian gentleman and one of the Best governors Ever Given to any state. The first to go into Battle for the preservation of his country the first in time of peace to protest against the machinations of the men who attempted to Oyer throw the government the first to stand for the Best Laws Ever Given his a state the first to insist upon prompt punishment of those who threatened the peace and welfare of Community and the first to answer the cry for help from surrounding states it is not strange that the country should be shocked when the elements that were combined to Lay him Low passed in review before the grand stand. If the men who stand in the pulpit promulgating the doctrines of the lowly Nazareth who was crucified if the mothers who marched through the mud and Snow during the crusade will recall the p ult if they will recall the abuse that was heaped upon them by Tea portion of the press that is now rejoicing Over the defeat of Foraker if they follow Down to that letter which stood in Tho tiniest Siar during Tho Campaign they can not help but agree that the Pap in was not at fault but that the better element of society was Recreant to the principles it advocates when it allowed the Man who was Brave enough to write such a letter to be struck Down by men who built and worshipped at the alter dedicated to Boodie fraud and ignorance the defeat of governor Foraker in it a lesson that should be studied by i la. It would be harder to believe that there would not be another life after death the in that the people of this state will not wipe out the disgrace that has come upon it by the defeat of Foraker.
