From one years end to another the members of the party Are vigilant Active and Rendy in the twinkling of an Eye Bounce Down upon any weak Point that May be discovered in the lines of the re publican party. The pursuing of anything less than a just and upright course by Tho republicans would have Many times re suited in defeat simply because they forgot that the enemy that pursued them was As untiring in the Chase As a hound and As unscrupulous and insidious in the manner of warfare As the invader who brought about Tho banishment of Adam from Eden. For Twenty live years the democratic party kept up its organization under the most trying and discouraging Circum stances. Year after year it was Defeated and kicked around from pillar to Post like a mangy dog but it never gave up. At the opening of every Campaign it was always on hands As wicked and of untiring As Ever it would Light some measures proposed by the republicans one year. By the next year it would have taken up the same measure As its own. One year forcing Uncle Thurman to nurse the rag baby the next howling for hard Money. One year howling for Tariff on Wool and the next for free Trade. And so on. Never with any set of fixed principles. Finally by Tho Ald of the solid South and ballot Box stutters in new York the democracy won and Grover Cleveland was counted in. It was then that the republicans fully appreciated How entirely they had forgotten what an energetic though unscrupulous foe had opposed them. In just four years the republicans turned the rascals out i have referred to the vigilance and activity of the democracy to show Bow even a party without principles a band of political Saracens flitting Here and there like so Many Sand flies have met with Success and to ask if the members of a party that has Given the Republic standing among the nations of the world should show any less Energy or vigilance in the counties where it is in the minority. The evils that have caused so much discontent among the voters in Defiance county Are As glaring and portentous As a storm Clond and some of the most severe denunciations of the acts of democratic officials come from the democratic ranks. Is there anything that could Call louder for prompt action and a United Effort on the part of the republicans than that the opinion seems to be wide spread that there should be one Republican member of the Board of county commissioners. This opinion is not the out come of a Day. Many have been slow to consider such a thing but they have at last been forced to do so because their interest As taxpayers demanded that they take some action. If the republicans in their convention Sherwood nominate a Man for commissioner who is known to be Well posted upon county affairs of sound judgment and with the courage to protest against the needless expenditure of Money by the Board i think there will be no question about bus election. The people Are willing to Grant m Oney to pay All necessary expenses but they Are not willing that the commissioners should spend More Money for livery lire to ride Back and Forth to places where county buildings Are being put up than those buildings Cost but the republicans should not make the mistake of putting one Strong Man alone on the ticket. A Chain that has but one Strong link is not of much Force. The nominees should be men of recognized ability. They should he men who will command the respect of the people in All quarters of the county. Such a combination of strength if the party is vigilant and acts promptly during the Campaign will give Good results. It May not he a Victory this year but we should fight to win one. It is such combats that weakens Tho enemy. Every Republican who can arrange to attend the county convention should lie present and Aid in the work of that convention. Done to say that we Are so hopelessly in the minority that there is no use to try to do anything. We Are in the minority it is True but still we have a Chance. It should not be thrown away. Nominate clean Strong men and we will surely elect one at least. That would not be labor lost. Ayersville. A it Hso. Waylard is on the sick list a thrashing is still the order of the Day. A mrs. J.
