The Toledo, St. Louis and Kansas City railroad expands service with day trains between Toledo and St Louis proving profitable. Next month a through night train with sleepers will run both ways, promising good time and popularity.

Bids for furnaces and heaters from Smead & Company Toledo and Fuller & Warner Chicago: Smead 1200 dollars, Fuller 1170 dollars, covering material and labor except mason and carpenter work. Board adjourned to Thursday night to review the proposal.
Southworth challenged the council over missing minutes and unrevealed terms of a Second street bridge contract with Smith Bridge Co. He claimed no report of drawing or signing the contract existed, while engineer Steinberger defended the substructure level and urged explanation before acceptance.
James W. Jarvis of North Defiance died at home Sunday evening from morphine overdose. He informed friends after a nap that he had taken 25 cents worth of morphine, died despite Dr Babbitt efforts. Aged about 60, born in Scotland, emigrated 1852. Wife survives, no children. Funeral held Monday at 2 PM at his residence with Rev B W Slagle officiating.
Mrs Malora Gillett Ensign, born May 16 1816 in Westerfield Connecticut, died at her son Henry's home in Defiance Ohio last Wednesday evening. She married F O Ensign in 1835 and moved to Defiance in 1862. Survived by sons O F F H T O Ensign, funeral held at home Saturday with Rev A L Jordan officiating.
