Hicksville news notes a council meeting and quorum questions, Edgerton visiting, Eliza Hill clerking, Bevington in Chicago, a gas well reaching 900 feet, Ackrey visiting Nebraska and Kansas, Richie closing stock to move to Dakota, Warner selling a farm for a house on Smith street, and Democrats backing Boothman. It questions enforcement of liquor laws near fairs and comments on sidewalks, reading, and schooling reforms. Local fairs and reform talks warn against gambling wheels and moral hazards.
Boothman plans are settled. Wednesday prayer meetings resume with a church crowd here Sunday evening. A Jacob Adams kin visits this week. Adam Kusian of Bellevue stopped by. Grandfather Bates, over ninety, was very ill last week but is improving. Wm. Hill returns from a road contract delay. Mt. Calvary quarterly meeting four weeks from last Friday with Rev. The Sherwood G A R encampment on September 9 and 10 attracted about 1500 on Thursday and 3000 on Friday. I Donald Post from Hicksville arrived with the Hicksville military band, Prof Harry Rock led the Sherwood Band, and a Butler Indiana Battery arrived. The event featured marching music and martial displays, with peaceful crowds and no brawls.
