The popular comic opera Pinafore will be presented at the Opera House next Tuesday by a first class company. Local citizens report a large turnout expected after a recent reunion was rained out.
Under Defiance County Patrons of Husbandry the basket picnic will be at the fair grounds in Defiance on Friday September 12 1879 at 10 o'clock A M J H Brigham Master of Ohio State Grange will speak all are invited to bring baskets and enjoy a grand time Subordinate Grangers to report to marshal by 9 A M for a procession from Union School Buildings to the fair grounds led by the Brunersburg Band
Last Saturday fore noon Johnnie Moore aged seven, son of Patrick Moore, sustained a painful accident while playing with fish hooks. The hook pierced the end of his right index finger after it worked through his pocket. Dr Holbrook removed the hook and the boy is now recovering.
The Defiance Union Schools announce the fall term starts Monday September eight with a staff list led by Superintendent Ashbaugh. The high school includes Miss Cora McDonald and Miss Emma Richmond, with grammar and primary teachers across East Buipine and other buildings, including Miss Kate Backus and Mrs. T. H. Ashton.
The September term jurors for Common Pleas Court are listed. Grand jurors include Joshua Dower Elias Winn W Ferguson J I Conkle Rasom Stone J J Hootman Isaac Rugle and others from Defiance Adams Milford Richland and Hicksville. Petit jurors include Andrew Sproud Stephen Shoe F W Dittner Samual Potters Henry Engler Michael Thierhoff and more from Defiance Noble Richland and nearby townships.
The Noble township town hall event featured B. F. Enos and H. T. Sutphen addressing a large crowd of Democrats and Republicans. Enos talked of running for Prosecuting Attorney and criticized marshals and supervisors while Sutphen admitted limited platform understanding and favored Congressional funding cuts.
Regular session notes include payments to Fire Clay Co Wm Doud and others, street work by D.W. Marcellus and Ebrhart grading Fifth Street, and printing by White & Blymyer. Resolutions order lamp posts on Jackson Harrison streets, settlements with County and Board of Education, stone for macadam, and sewer alley petition referral. First reading passes to suppress locomotive whistle. meeting adjourns to next Monday.
G W Bechel’s drug store in Defiance boasts a grand enlargement and a palace like display. The shop features a vast stock of school books, stationery, perfumery, wall papers, and frames. Bechel, a pioneer in town, is praised for pure drugs and low prices while inviting patrons to inspect the extensive show cases.

Wm Ufer threshes 500 bushels from 10 acres of barley. Died of consumption Wm Nerswinder Aug 28 1879 aged 17y1m. buried at Clinker cemetery. Peter Pad suspected of hauling wheat for threshing. Cheese factory not built by Benner and Letcher. Geo Benner and Charles Stailey buy engine and machinery of old factory and plan a new one by spring.
