Destructive Goodhue County Cyclone Dramatizes July Storm
From Red Wing to Vassa and Warrentown the cyclone swept through Goodhue County tearing buildings apart. In Vassa the Orphanage housing twenty four inmates was demolished with three killed and seventeen injured. In nearby homes, nine people died and thirty were wounded. Widespread damage extended to Havana Lake Emily and Lake Emily farms with multiple deaths and serious injuries. The storm crossed the Mississippi into Pierce County Wisconsin, with additional houses wrecked and residents injured.

A bear pit under Joe Beef’s Common Street canteen housed a large black bear and cubs. When a six year old boy fell toward the den, the mother bear dragged him in.
