Burgland and Wilchli of Bay City Mich have closed the bargain for the Dickman property in the third ward except the blacksmith shop. The pail factory will start April first, employ 30 to 40 men, and may expand as needed. Dickman will continue Dickman wagon production using power from the factory.
The body of August Poelman, a cattle buyer described as a thick set German, was found in a stream crossing below Florida. It is believed his team tipped from a bank, possibly on the way home from Napoleon to Adams Ridge. Early reports suggest a neck break after being thrown from the wagon, with the body found on a bridge as details emerged.
Two Grand Army Posts arrange public meetings to promote G A R work. Rev A C Byers will lecture at Myers house Defiance February 13, then speak in Hicksville February 14. Small admission charged to cover expenses. public attendance urged.
Friday night John Weise, son in law of Archie Worthington, and his team fell through the Auglaize canal near Hudson lock. The man and two horses drowned after unhitched, a boat nearby did not hear a cry. Children at a nearby house observed the incident.

The firm Heller and Waterman advertises remaining stock from the Krotz opera house blaze. Half of their stock burned, the other half moved to Blanchard block on Clinton. They plan to sell the broken lots at very low prices to attract buyers. The goods are undamaged and priced to invite inquiry.
John Saeger, a Brunersburg and Lehman & Son worker, shot himself on Fifth Street after crossing the canal. He died Tuesday night after being found unconscious at the city prison halls. He had recently brought his wife and five children to join him, and a man with the wife is suspected of involvement in a jealous rage.
Fire losses for Heller and Waterman have been settled by the Mutual Companies insured, with Buckeye issuing payment promptly after loss determination. F. F. Smith represents the Mutual Companies and notes they were first to adjust and pay.

Proprietors Myers and Cots announce in Defiance that the Opera House Grocery can sell goods as cheap as any city firm and will not be undersold. They also pledge to pay the highest market price for country produce in cash or trade.
