Disappearance of Dr J L Scott in Chicago mystery
Dr J L Scott of this city was telegraphed to Chicago last Thursday to search for his brother who vanished in a mysterious manner. Scott had recently left Pana to conduct business in Chicago, carrying several thousand dollars he planned to invest in government bonds. The last sighting shows him with two men paying a hotel bill. Fears arise that he was harmed for his money.

Club Meeting in City Opera House Discusses Finance
Mr. J. P. Cameron addressed Foster and Hickenlooper Club members at the Opera House. A large crowd attended including many Democrats. Before the speech, F. G. Narrow Escape From Train At East Defiance
George Shadler and two coworkers hauling bricks near the B and O railroad in East Defiance narrowly escaped disaster. A wagon wheel was torn, another driver thrown, and the engine stopped after crashing through debris, ending with the train halting in a marsh beyond the track.
