The engagement of Kitty Wiley to Travis Graham is announced by Mr. and Mrs. John D. Wiley of 1213 Kenny. The couple plans a May 30 wedding at 8 p.m. in Deer Park First Baptist Church. Kitty Wiley is a University of Houston freshman. The Houston-Galveston Area Council Executive Committee will meet April 15 at 9:30 a.m. in Houston.

Denty Attends Texas Music Educators Convention
The Texas Music Educators Association Convention and Clinic met in San Antonio at the Convention Center. Our band director Mr Glynn Denty attended this convention to obtain new ideas and methods for band directors. Others attending from our district were Mr John Wiley Mr Rene Escobar and Mr Jon Lamkin.

Four officers of the Student Council traveled to Amarillo Texas for the annual state meeting held March 27 to 29. The council elected to proceed with plans discussed at the gathering.

Kevan O Banion Wins Junior High Oratorical Contest
Kevan O Banion a 7th grader won first place in the Optimist Club Boys International Oratorical contest out of six speakers. The local contest occurred at Toppers Steak House Pasadena with his five minute speech on Respect for Law Cornerstone of Citizenship. He advances to the zone contest in Baytown on April 24. The eighth grade A team beat Pearland 15 8 and 15 9. team members included Wendi Failing Patti French Lisa McKissick Linda Miles Beverly Simeik and Sharon Tichavsky. The B team also defeated Pearland 15 8 and 15 7. members were Dennis Harmon Becky Hollard Rena Kitchins Carmen Luther Cheryl Smith and Debbie Waggoner. Officials include Kim Crossline and Sheila Jamerson. Attendance list names Scott McMillan Tommy Thompson Susan King Monta Gayle Cain. Students stayed with Amarillo hosts and enjoyed social activities while meeting peers from across Texas.
