Changes Sought In Sleepwear
The U S Consumer Product Safety Commission plans to modify sleepwear flammability standards for children while keeping protection against fire. Proposals aim to reduce flame retardant use by eliminating Residual Flame Time and altering Trim testing, and to delete the standard for sleepwear under size 1. Comments will be asked in the Federal Register soon with hopes for Fall 1978 implementation, amid debate over labeling. Former Secretary Earl Butz resigned October 4 1976 after apologizing for a racist remark.

Benefit Question Solved for SSI and Medicaid
A couple asks if Medicaid paying most of a spouse’s care affects monthly SSI. If a beneficiary is in a facility with Medicaid covering over half the cost, SSI is reduced. If only one spouse is in the facility, each member’s income is treated separately. Notify a social security office for exact effects.
