No Tax Increase SJC Seeks 7.5 Million Bond Vote
San Jacinto College District asks voters in La Porte Pasadena Channelview Sheldon Galena Park and nearby districts to approve a 7.5 million bond on September 28. Funds will fund a new Northshore technical vocational building and the first structure for a new Doble campus as enrollment climbs from 876 in 1961 to over 12 500 this fall. President Dr Thomas Spencer says the bond builds local access without raising taxes and cites growing enrollment and strong voter support.

City adopts 5.3 million budget with 28 percent rise
The city approves a 5.3 million budget including a 1200 dollar annual raise for all full time classified staff plus 100 dollar monthly cost of living boosts. Du Pont Plans Large Methanol and Polyethylene Expansions
Du Pont announces a new methanol plant with capacity rising from 375 to 680 million pounds per year at the Houston complex, the largest US Industrial Chemical Co division site. Construction also expands the low density polyethylene plant from 380 to 560 million pounds annually and the affiliated National Petrochemicals Corp high density polyethylene plant from 360 to 60 million pounds per year.
