Ken's Taco Burger Open 24 Hours Celebrates Fifth Birthday
Ken's Taco Burger and Steakhouse in Deer Park marked its fifth birthday on February 3. The 24 hour restaurant at 602 Center offers a lunch special with three meats and three vegetables for 1.65, plus breakfast for 1.50. Owner Ken Voltz runs the place with wife Joan and their children Candy and Randy. Open House At Deer Park Junior High Draws 650
About 650 parents and guests attended the Deer Park Junior High Open House on Oct. 20. Principal Dr. Dean Shaver praised student involvement as bands choirs and orchestras performed patriotic music. Eighth graders Mark Whitley and Tonya Corbin delivered readings I Am Democracy and Red Skelton's Explanation of the Pledge. Twirlers and cheerleaders helped pre program ceremonies. Afterward visitors met teachers and staff.

The Deepwater Parkwood PTO meeting on Oct. 21 opened with a flag ceremony by Webelo Den 810 led by Tom Reid. Doyle Alexander of Parkwood Baptist Church gave the invocation. Linda Langham announced a membership enrollment of 813 with first through third place classroom winners. Special recognition went to Joan Jennings and Kathy Pearson for the Halloween carnival. Deer Park Speech Students Shine at Bellaire Tourney
Rusty Holmes, a Deer Park High School junior, won first place in championship Dramatic Interpretation at Bellaire on Oct. 18, qualifying for the State TASME in Odessa. Cheryl Carr also won first in Poetry for the second year in the largest U.S. invitational. John Lang earned third in novice dramatic interpretation as 22 Deer Park students faced 70 schools from six states. Charlene Poole leads the speech program.
