Deepwater Optimist Club Leader Profiles Arlis Karr
Arlis Karr heads the Deepwater Optimist Club which supports a 30-team youth baseball program for both boys and girls. He notes fundraising costs about 15 dollars per girl to field a team, with balls costing 35 dollars a dozen and lights a factor, while merchants donate generously. Karr, named Optimist of the Year 1971 and Friend of the Boy twice, has fostered many awards with scouts and volunteers. The Lesbia Karr Field on Parkwood Street honors his late partner Lesbia, who helped from the stands, and Lecia Karr assists with Girl Scouts and community efforts. The Karrs, with son Archie, attend Guardian Angel Church and he works as a lab technician while focusing on youth drug education.
