Five bond propositions passed in a local city vote with 716 ballots cast. Proposition 1 funds for streets and utilities, and Propositions 2 and 3 cover water and sewer improvements, all approved by solid margins.
Deer Park police from Dec 1 to Dec 7 arrested 12 people including five for public intoxication and two for intoxication with marijuana. Other items note a school district walk through on Dec 8, a Christmas party at 740 Princeton for Deer Park Ladies Civic Club, and Jaycees offering Santa for hire with Johnny Cobb contact. Voter turnout was seven percent of over 10 000 registered voters across three precincts.
Voting breakdown lists results by precinct 8 precinct 420 and precinct 51 for propositions 1 through 5. Precinct 8 shows margins with up to 206 for propositions 2 and 3 and 194 for proposition 1 while precinct 420 reports high for propositions 1 2 3 and 5 with several opposed. precinct 51 tallies show solid for votes across all propositions with varying against counts.

The Port of Houston Authority donates 2.79 acres of right of way for Georgia Street from 13th to San Augustine to the city. Genpert values the reload at £96,000 with a reversion to the port if the street is not built within years. Mayor Bill Black notes bond funds for construction were halted in last year's bond election.
Three more people file for the Deer Park School District School Board race set for January 15. Dean Evans of 918 Luella seeks Position 1 and will face Jerry Garner and Sammy Patterson. Evans serves as athletic director.
The Jaycees announce the annual parade will start at 8 p.m. on Thursday December 16 with entrants gathering at 7 p.m. at the new community center. Grand marshal will be Terry Onda radio disc jockey from San Jacinto College. Filing for City Council seats continues with multiple candidates across Positions 1 3 6 and 7 and a filing deadline of December 24 at 4:30 p.m.
A 19 year old Lubrizol plant worker injured in a reactor fire at the Pasadena facility last Wednesday has been released from Pasadena General Hospital and has not yet returned to work. The fire burned for 20 minutes before crews controlled it. The cause and total damage remain undetermined, Lubrizol spokesman R. D. Turner said.
Hanna Shock has lived in the Houston area for two years and will officiate her first varsity basketball game in January against Jones and Wheatly. She is the Houston Chapter’s first woman to call a 4A varsity game and averages 75 to 100 games a year, mostly at the high school level.
A vaccination event at the Deer Park Civic Center administered free swine flu shots to 336 residents last Saturday. Public health officer Elizabeth Baker called the response pretty good after past incidents, with four city women assisting recipients with forms while Dr. Billy Sealy and Dr. Don Metz oversaw the operation.
