Deer Park Sources Report December Parade and Holiday Events

Deer Park police arrested 12 people from November 24 to 29, including 10 for public intoxication, one for soliciting, and one for attempted marijuana possession. The Jaycee Christmas parade is set for December 16 at night starting at Dow Park, with a route through San Augustine, Luella, X Street, and Center. Proceeds from Campfire Girls candy sales, Nov. 20 to Dec. 4, fund camp improvements with treats at 1.25 each. The Ladies Civic Club Christmas Lighting Contest will be December 13 at 6:30 p.m., judging religious, use of lights, contemporary, and commercial categories. volunteers may call Freya Oates.

Voters Decide Tuesday on eight million bond plan

Voters in Deer Park will decide on an $8 million capital improvement bond program split into four propositions. The packages fund streets and drainage water sewer public buildings and parks with precinct polling sites at the Recreation Center Civic Center and Community Center. Officials say no tax increase is needed and bonds will be issued in small yearly increments.

The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce will honor a Member of the Quarter at 2 p.m. Wednesday December 1. Weaver Electric located at 2309 Center is selected for the honor.

City Council Set Meeting for Tuesday Evening

The city council will meet at 7 30 p m Tuesday December 7 in the council chamber at city hall to discuss local matters.

Plants Guilty Of Pollution In Deer Park Area

Fluor Engineers and Constructors was found guilty of water pollution and fined 400 in County Criminal Court No 2 Judge J D Guyon presiding. Crown Central Petroleum Corporation was found guilty on three air pollution counts and fined 500 on each offense in Court No 8 Judge Charles Coussens. Occurred Jan 16 March 6 and April 1 this year at Washburn Tunnel Plant and Red Bluff plant tank farm on Highway 225. Two offenses involved odor and gas mist discharges. the oil leak case involved an old 12 inch pipe. A monitoring service now runs at the plant. CANDIDATE Sammy Patterson Pasadena is a candidate for the Deer Park school board position No 1. No new candidates listed as of Tuesday morning.

Swine Flu Vaccinations Offered Free Saturday

Deer Park residents can receive free swine flu shots Saturday December 4 at the Civic Center 601 Center from 1 to 5 p.m. The City Public Health Department oversees the event under Dr. Billy Sealy. this will be the only Deer Park vaccination session.

Postal Hours Increase at Deer Park Post Office

The Deer Park post office on Eighth Street will open Saturdays on December 4 11 and 18 from 8 30 a m to 1 p m with full window services. Postmaster Don Bradley urges early mailing to ensure Christmas delivery.

League Will Sponsor Bond Public Forum

The Deer Park League of Women Voters will hold a public forum at 7 30 p m Thursday Dec 2 in the city council chambers to discuss the city bond election. A speaker will explain the proposed bonds and answer questions from the audience. Loretta Caudle urges all citizens to learn where their money will be spent.
