Performances of Webber and Rice's Jesust wrist Super star scheduled for August 20 and 21 at La Porte High School have been postponed. They will now be held August 27 and 28 at 8 PM in the San Jacinto College auditorium. Ticket holders may request refunds or exchange tickets for the new dates.
Georgie and Debbie Hall daughters of Deer Park Councilman Walter D Hall ride in a pony wagon during the Deer Park Flea Market event. The Jaycees Jaycee-Ettes organized the fundraiser to raise money for Perry Calvin Bingham Medical Expense Fund toward surgery a kidney transplant for the young man.
The Deer Park Jaycees presided over a vibrant area convention with awards for first year Jaycee and Jaycee-Ette speaking contests. Val Nesser placed third in first year speaking and Carolyn Ogden took second in SPOKE. Mike Culling earned third in Outstanding First Year Jaycee, Jim Simmons was runner-up among first-timers, and the Deer Park chapter earned a trophy for early registration. Dennis Nesser energized the seconding speech for Rural Chairman, Mike Culling backed the Urban Chairman bid. NASA VIP tour capped the event praised as the best area convention yet.
Deer Park announces a veteran core led by tight end Jet Turner and linebacker Tom Renfro plus Clarence Judd as top prospects. Others include QB Jeff Wilcoxon and backfield depth with Steve Petty, Gary Plaisance, Scott McMillan, Dale White, and William Ghormley. Competition for running back and end spots remains fierce as the district opener vs Brazoswood on Sept 10 approaches. Captain Beckey receives Bronze Star and Air Medals for valor in Vietnam with plans for further study at the University of Texas.
Community blood donors filled a July event as the Harris County Hospital District praised the city’s residents for their generosity. A stand by of 200 pints is required before Perry Bingham’s kidney transplant, with his mother Martha Bingham as donor. The event, in front of Western Auto at Eighth and Center, ran Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mayor Black shared the district’s letter thanking locals for their aid and noting the next visit is planned for August 21.
The schedule material will be mailed and no changes will occur before opening day. Announcements will be made during the first week of school. If a schedule is missing or lost, students should report to the office on Monday, August 92 to obtain guidance and a replacement.
Nine Deer Park residents were among about 1,300 candidates who earned degrees at the University of Houston Summer commencement. State Senator Barbara Jordan spoke, UH President Philip G. Hoffman conferred degrees, and Emmett Fields recognized honor graduates at Hofheinz Pavilion. Names include Leroy Henneke, William Kielman, Nancy Anderson, James McCarley, Norma Minter, Orville Parsons, William Powell, and Vivian Wright.
Day D. Myers has been appointed Loan Officer of Buffalo Savings and Loan Association, announced by Ray Langford, President. He brings over 20 years in savings and loan work, county tax office, and oil and gas real estate departments, and is an associate of the American Society of Real Estate Appraisers. A Morton Mississippi native, he came to Houston in 1946 and resides at 2425 Albans.
Deer Park councilman James Cook, also Deer Park’s Houston Galveston Area Council representative, discusses regional planning aims and small-city representation. He notes ongoing efforts to reduce facility duplication and coordinate transportation water and sewage across 10 counties while meeting state and federal requirements. His wife Juanita, a former art teacher with master's studies, comments on the couple’s community involvement and Busy schedule.
