Shell Oil Plans Two New Ranch Style Stations in Deer Park

Shell Oil Company announces two new ranch style service stations for Deer Park. One will be at the refinery entrance and the other at Center Street near Railroad and 1st Streets. Both, with three bays, will offer full car care and open before year end.

Precinct 84 Voters Approve Three State Amendments

In Precinct 84 on a light turnout of 13 percent, voters approved three of nine proposed state constitutional amendments. Precinct 51 votes were unavailable. For and against tallies are listed for amendments 1 through 9, with totals ranging from 60 to 362 in favor and 65 to 357 against.

Deer Park Junior High Band Camp Schedule Update

The Deer Park Junior High Bands announce summer session times for new A-Band members from August 12 to 14 with woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. The intermediate band may join the A-Band times or meet August 18 at 1 p.m. Sixth grade band arrives August 18 at 2 p.m. For questions contact Mr. Denty at GR 9-2831 Ext. 303.

Community service lists military members for Deer Park

A compiled roster of all men in service is being prepared by Mrs. W. D. Antone of 825 James. Readers with sons or daughters in the military who have not appeared in the Deer Park Progress are asked to contact Mrs. Antone at 479-4839. The plan is to publish the list in the Progress and display it publicly to honor their service.

Summer Band Starts Today at Deer Park

Deer Park Band begins summer rehearsals August 7 from 6:30 to 8 except Wednesdays 4 to 6. Picnic for students attending 12 of 15 rehearsals. In June State Solo and Ensemble contest saw multiple Deer players medal. Larry Fenn and Paulette Freitag earned honors at Drum Major Camp and Band Camp respectively. Football schedule includes performances at numerous area games.

July 21 Police Report and Yearly Accident Totals

Police report for July lists 21 accidents. Through July 31 total accidents rise to 147 for the year, up from 132 in the same period last year.

School Trustee Election Set For October 4

The School District board scheduled the annual School Trustee Election for Saturday October 4 with two seats open. Incumbent W D Bradley holds Position No 4 and incumbent Mrs Helen Johnson holds Position No 5. Voting sites include the Deer Park High Annex Carpenter Deepwater and Lynchburg Elementary Schools.

Youth Revival and Community Events in Deer Park

The Deer Park community hosts a Youth Revival at San Jacinto Baptist Church August 8 through 10 with Eu gene Wilson preaching. A style show hits the Deer Park Civic Center August 14. School activities include a September 2 start date, August 26 football and track exams at Deer Park Jr. High, and a West ern Music night Wednesdays at the Civic Center. Parent concerns over a 1.3 mile bus radius are discussed with plans for a workshop August 12 and a final inspection of the new Deer Park Elementary.

Mr Marlin O Cherry Active Educator and Clock Collector

Mr Marlin O Cherry a biology teacher at San Jacinto Junior College since 1961 leads the Science Math and Engineering division and chairs the Biology Department. He holds BS and MED from Stephen F Austin College and works with Science Club Biology Club and Pre Med Club while publishing in Southwestern Naturalist and writing lab manuals. He helps Deer Park Rotary Club start up and serves as secretary of Pasadena Shrine Club. He and his wife Sadi live at 901 Alyse with two sons Blair and Scot.
