City administrator Totar reports Luella Street sewer work nearing completion with lift station to be installed. March water sewer requests total 74, library circulation up to 5 304 and seven full time staff, building permits issued 15 totaling 646 650 dollars.
Ace runner Sammy Skinner led the state mile by clocking 4 20.9 at Baytown Relays on Friday. He beat Westchester’s Paul Stansberry, who ran 4 21.0 as Deer Park and Waltrip tied for sixth with 34 points and Memorial claimed the team title with 87. Rick Morton was fifth in pole vault at 12-6. The Deer head to district at Pasadena this Friday and Saturday.

A sequence of local activities includes a teen dance at the Deer Park Civic Center on Friday April 11 from 8 to midnight with Elastic Prism providing music. Also planned are Vacation Bible School at First Baptist June 2–6 and Vacation Church School at Deer Park Methodist July 21–25, plus Methodist District Camp July 6–11 at Lakeview. City Council discussed resignations from Ed Lehr and Jimmy Burke as planning and parks officials. Bids were approved for a Public Works pickup. Rezoning of Deer Park Outlets 110 and 111 to Apartment District 7 passed 4-3. Iowa Gardens rezoning was tabled. P&Z to study Maxey Survey rezone. Fence project around Luella barn site to improve appearance and safety. Texas Municipal League commendation approved. Outlet 76 water sewer extension discussed and tabled for cost study.
Mrs. R Connelly chairing Deer Park effort for the American Cancer Society five year Educational Survey tied to the residential Crusade ending April 15. Residents asked to answer a confidential eight question survey about health habits and screenings, with volunteers needed to distribute literature and seek support. call 528-2877.
Four Deer Park High School students were involved in a Sunday crash on Highway 225 near Battleground Road. Guy Cox and Yvonne White were dismissed after hospital care. Cheryl Staton remained critical days but improved after moving from ICU, while Gail Page stayed hospitalized with pelvic injuries. Drivers of the other cars were uninjured.
Ace Balor Moore limited Baytown Lee to three hits and fanned 16 as Deer Park won 6-4. Moore also tripled for an RBI, joined by Troy Humphries with a run scoring triple and Don Wilson going 2 for 4. Deer Park moves to 3-2 in district, chasing Rayburn at 6-0, with a Friday trip to Pasadena against Dobie High.
The Deerettes tied Angleton for the district championship and then lost a playoff to them. Sherry King and Teena Green earned spots as forwards on the all-district team. Connie Van Rheen made the second team as a guard.
The Texas Hot Shots accordion children's band directed by Miss Joan Coffman performs its tenth annual concert May 10 at 8 P.M. in Mason Auditorium 700 Ivy. They have a history of top awards from the Mid America Music Festival Gulf Coast events and world fairs, with tickets available in advance from the Coffman Conservatory of Music.
Parents and interested attendees urged to join the Girl's Softball League meeting at Deer Park Civic Center 601 Center on Thursday April 10 at 7 30 p m. Board members to assemble at 7 p m. Registrations remain open for Ponytail ages 9 to 12 and Teenage League ages 13 to 18.
The Houston Youth Symphony directed by Robert Linder gives its second spring concert at Miller Outdoor Theatre on Sunday April 13 at 2 30 p m. Selections include Saint Saens Fraca nse Military March Algerian Suite Danse Des Bouffons Rimsky Korsakov Elegance Prelude in A Minor Scenes from the Southwest by McKay and Slaviana by Holesovsky.
The Deer Park Public Library expands children programs with a second weekly story hour for ages 3 1/2 to 5 led by Evelyn Massey on Tuesdays and Rosemary Babb on Wednesdays assisted by Beverly Schoppe and Linda Woodruff. Full classes, waiting lists, and summer registration are announced.
