Skinner Wins Mile At Baytown Relays

Ace runner Sammy Skinner led the state mile by clocking 4 20.9 at Baytown Relays on Friday. He beat Westchester’s Paul Stansberry, who ran 4 21.0 as Deer Park and Waltrip tied for sixth with 34 points and Memorial claimed the team title with 87. Rick Morton was fifth in pole vault at 12-6. The Deer head to district at Pasadena this Friday and Saturday.

Teen Dance and summer youth events announced in Deer Park area

A sequence of local activities includes a teen dance at the Deer Park Civic Center on Friday April 11 from 8 to midnight with Elastic Prism providing music. Also planned are Vacation Bible School at First Baptist June 2–6 and Vacation Church School at Deer Park Methodist July 21–25, plus Methodist District Camp July 6–11 at Lakeview. Cancer Crusade chairman leads Texas education survey

Students Injured In Auto Wreck Progressing Satisfactorily

Four Deer Park High School students were involved in a Sunday crash on Highway 225 near Battleground Road. Guy Cox and Yvonne White were dismissed after hospital care. Cheryl Staton remained critical days but improved after moving from ICU, while Gail Page stayed hospitalized with pelvic injuries. Drivers of the other cars were uninjured.

Deer Park Beats Baytown Lee In District Contest

Ace Balor Moore limited Baytown Lee to three hits and fanned 16 as Deer Park won 6-4. Moore also tripled for an RBI, joined by Troy Humphries with a run scoring triple and Don Wilson going 2 for 4. Deer Park moves to 3-2 in district, chasing Rayburn at 6-0, with a Friday trip to Pasadena against Dobie High.

Deerettes Place Two on All-District Girls Team

The Deerettes tied Angleton for the district championship and then lost a playoff to them. Sherry King and Teena Green earned spots as forwards on the all-district team. Connie Van Rheen made the second team as a guard.
