State fire marshal investigates a mysterious case in Sac counties Cook township after a farmhouse barn and stables burn. Neighbors had prior trouble with farmer A Neubauer. Two days later Neubauer's body is found in a well on the property. Officials review whether death was murder or suicide.
Edward O'Dea of the East Des Moines Commercial Club says the Horn of Plenty from Towa will move to Des Moines after the Panama Pacific Exposition. The prize corn from Iowa, showcased in San Francisco, will be placed in Des Moines' historical society building once the fair ends.
Judge George A. Carpenter of the U S district court in Chicago ordered the receivers of the Rock Island and Pacific railroad to file actions against current and former directors seeking 6 000 000 in recoveries. Pro ceedings will be brought in the federal court for the southern district of New York. The suits arise from the acquisition and later divorc ing of the Frisco lines.
Senator W. B. Kenyon predicts unanimous town backing for Cummins in the presidential race. He asserts the state shows no wish to oppose him and expects solid regional support if Borah declines candidacy. He says Cummins’ strength is real and widespread. A note adds that education underpins happiness.
