Frosted corn warnings urge timely silage cutting
Agricultural extension bulletins warn farmers not to cut corn too early for silage. Milk stage corn holds about 65 percent of its future dry matter. delaying harvest increases material in stalk and ears. Frosted corn should be cut immediately after frost for good silage. moisture loss is the main effect, and moisture may require moistened silo later. If corn remains in milk stage, water addition is rarely needed even when frosted.
