Mott and company announces a general store catalog in Decorah Iowa offering dry goods groceries cloaks shoes and notions at 311 318 West Water Street. The short notice lists multiple product categories for local shoppers.

Des Moines officials report the Iowa State Teachers Association closed its annual convention endorsing government war aims and community cooperation. Resolutions call for food conservation, anti German influence, and democracy in schools. $2,000 from permanent funds pledged to Liberty bonds. New constitution laid out election changes and a permanent secretary office. officers include Clark, Slinker, Hanson, Bradshaw, Colgrove. A secretary to be chosen later. The topic of poliomyelitis is noted as a misnomer amid ongoing search for a cure.
A committee of fifteen mayors met with Governor Harding to urge a Des Moines public hearing at month end. Attorney Clifford Thorne will present a plan to resolve the coal shortage, with a three member panel aiding the governor. The group seeks to identify causes and ensure miners can work when allowed.
Decorah law states a 1 cent tax per 10 cents of admission applies to dances with at the door charges. Organizers must remit the tax to the collector the same as theater entities. Exempts Thanksgiving firemen dance benefiting the Red Cross and any government benefiting entertainment.

A war tax on parcel post packages paying 25 cents or more in postage becomes effective December 4 1917. Paragraphs 7 and 8 of Order No 831 require a one cent tax per 25 cent or fraction thereof for consignors, with stamps affixed and prepaid postage and tax. parcels under 25 cents are exempt. Special internal revenue stamps must be used.
United States Senators William B. Kenyon of Iowa and John B. Kendrick of Wyoming escaped harm during a second air raid in London. They had been sleeping on the top floor of a seven story hotel and awoke to the bombing. Kenyon alerted Kendrick, then both watched the shells from their pajamas at the window.
Under Attorney General Havner guidance the board of supervisors canvassed the recent constitutional amendment election results. Three ballots were found opposing the wets, narrowing the wet majority to 1428 instead of 1 431 as first reported. The note ends with a dismissive street remark.
