Hospital project endorsed with Dr Guthrie to lead

Decorah advances toward a new hospital after Mr William Smith offered 10000 dollars if the community raised 15000. Dr J R Guthrie of Dubuque will be chief surgeon and visit Decorah weekly with county physicians on staff. A five member board will manage the facility under a head nurse. Public contributions and commercial club support are sought to reach the goal.

Gov Eberhart to Visit Decorah for Speech

Gov. A. O. Eberhart of Minnesota will visit Decorah on Tuesday June 3 en route to Spring Grove where he speaks on the 4th He will be hosted by Luther College and Symra and speak at the college in the evening Prominent as a brainy figure of the middle west, his visit is welcomed by locals and a large audience is expected.

Steen Family Reunion Planned for Memorial Day

John Steen of Wahoo Nebraska invites four Steen brothers Martin Henry Otto and John to Decorah and Glenwood township on May 30 for a family reunion. Martin of Napoleon North Dakota age eighty will attend and the brothers will take part in memorial services. All served in the army with credit and distinction and John hopes old comrades join them in Decorah.

Going to France With Harter Family Voyage

On June 14 John Harter of Locust sails from New York to France to visit a cousin unseen for years. The trip will take him to the Alsace Lorraine region to reconnect with relatives and relive memories of past wars. He plans to bring strawberry plants that thrived last season for his relatives. Mrs Harter accompanies him.

Decorah Choral Union Reports Successful Year at Meeting

The Decorah Choral Union held its annual meeting Monday at First Lutheran parish hall. Members noted a year of success with receipts totaling 305 and a treasury balance of 116. After the business session, a social hour with light refreshments followed.

Odd Fellows celebrate home coming day on Friday June 13 in Mason City. Rev Frank Taylor of Algona to deliver the principal address with music by the Lake Mills band and the Children s Home orchestra. Vir and Master Cutting of Decorah also to speak at the event.

Route Agent McGinty Relocated From Decorah

Wells Fargo Express confirms route agent Robert McGinty will cease to be a Decorah resident. He gains additional territory and will base headquarters in Fort Dodge, reflecting a general re arrangement of route agents' territories.

Decorah High School Holds Commencement Week 1913 Events

Decorah high school closes next week for the year 1912 13 with commencement planned. Rev Mahlon Willett to deliver the baccalaureate sermon at Congregational church and State High School Inspector P E McClenihan of Des Moines to give the commencement address. The class play At the End of the Rainbow will be staged at Grand Opera House. The senior class includes twenty three members with ten in Latin and thirteen in English, and the junior senior reception will close the week with music by the junior class.

Married at Waterloo church in local ceremony

At the Catholic church in Waterloo on Tuesday morning 27th at 8 30 o clock Willard Haas son of Mrs Jacob T Haas Decorah and Miss Florence Levey were united in marriage. The bride was a stranger to Decorians but Willard has many friends here who extend congratulations.

Eighth Grade Graduation at Decorah Courthouse

Eighth grade graduation exercises will be held Saturday May 31 at 1 30 pm in the main courtroom of the Decorah courthouse. Seventy two pupils from county schools will receive diplomas and the event, organized by County Superintendent H F Miller, aims to spur better rural school work and high school attendance. Dr A E Bennett of Upper Iowa University will give the graduation address and the program includes songs by the Night Wind High School Glee Club and performances by the High School Quartette and a reading by Dr Willett.

A Painful Accident Involving Phil Halse At Farm

Phil Halse of the old Col. Taylor farm suffered a severe fall last Sunday while feeding in the barn. He broke the upper arm near the shoulder socket after slipping through a trap door. Dr M D Jewell treated and reduced the fracture. Halse rests as comfortably as possible under the circumstances.
