Names listed include Stanley Searvie Decorah Walter Frey Calmar Arthur Gunhus Ridgeway and many others with towns like Cresco Ossian Decorah Calmar and Fort Atkinson. Numbers will be assigned by the adjutant general and announced later.
Special cable reports Yanks in a shell hole fifty yards from a German machine gun. Two wounded men thirsting choke as water is fetched from two dead Germans. Homer A. Miller reports to B. J. McKay that Iowa War Savings Stamp sales fell from 6 590 228 25 in June to 4 544 292 75 in July. He says the state is not living up to pledges and drops from third to twenty second in sales, urging county and city chairmen to redouble efforts for remaining months to redeem pledges and limit conversions to cash.
